Mentorship Program

Pediatric Nephrologists with expertise in acute care nephrology and/or who are directors of acute care nephrology programs would be paired for mentorship of Junior Faculty (or senior fellows) who are planning to be or who are new Acute Care Nephrology Directors at their institution.

The APP-SIG is launching a new mentorship initiative led by Meredith Atkins and colleagues. This program will pair Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to discuss diverse career pathways.

• Senior APPs can mentor peers exploring leadership, education, or speaking opportunities (e.g., transitions to teaching, industry collaborations, etc.).

• Novice APPs will receive guidance as they begin their professional journeys.
  This initiative aims to build a supportive community for APPs at all stages of their careers.

This program connects division directors across institutions. It provides mentorship for new division directors and those seeking support in leadership, strategy, or managing professional challenges.

The JEDI Committee will mentor learners and new faculty through advocacy and leadership in diversity-related initiatives. Mentorship is also available for individuals underrepresented in medicine or those developing JEDI-related projects.

The committee is eager to mentor trainees and junior faculty with an interest in medical education.

• Format: One-on-one targeted mentorship

• Opportunities: Integration into educational offerings such as monthly webinars (radiology, pathology, board review, etc.) and collaboration on educational projects.
  Mentees will gain access to leaders in pediatric nephrology education and develop their teaching and curriculum-design skills.

The Research Committee’s mentorship initiative promotes a collaborative, high-quality research culture in pediatric nephrology across clinical, translational, and basic science areas.
Mentees will receive guidance in:

• Research design, data analysis, and publication strategy

• Aligning academic interests with impactful scientific questions

• Achieving balance across clinical, academic, and personal growth
  The goal is to support the development of independent, compassionate, and impactful physician-scientists.

This program follows the ASPN Mentorship Guidelines, focusing on structured mentor-mentee matching and clear expectations.

The Workforce Committee will pair early-career mentees with experienced faculty for holistic career guidance.

  The goal is to foster mentorship relationships that promote growth, retention, and fulfillment in pediatric nephrology careers.
